Gulf Air’s first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which was delivered to Bahrain on Friday, will be operate on regional routes, before it’s deployed on the London Heathrow route on June 15.

The wide-body aircraft, the first of Gulf Air’s incoming fleet of 39 new Boeing and Airbus aircraft, has 282 seats in a two-class configuration, with 26 Falcon Gold Class seats and 256 Economy Class seats – over 30 percent more than its previous wide body offering.

Gulf Air will take delivery of four more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and two Airbus A320neo aircraft by the end of this year.

In addition to the London route, Gulf will operate the Dreamliner on the Casablanca, Morocco service.

Gulf Air Chairman, Zayed R. Alzayani described the new aircraft as “a game-changer for the kingdom’s national carrier”.

“2018 will see Gulf Air open eight new routes to Abha, Alexandria, Baku, Bangalore, Calicut, Casablanca, Sharm El Shaikh and Tabuk,” Alzayani said.

“With such expansion, we are creating growth opportunities within the Kingdom of Bahrain’s financial and tourism sectors amongst others.”

As well as the extra space for passengers, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner offers around 20% less fuel and around 20% fewer emissions than the airplanes they replace.

In 2018, Gulf Air’s network will serve 49 cities in 26 countries.
