Morocco, Nigeria sign gas pipeline project deal

    13 Jun 2018

Morocco and Nigeria signed a cooperation agreement to build a gas pipeline across West Africa on the occasion of a two-day official visit by Nigerian President Mohammed Bukhari to Morocco.

Bukhari, who was accompanied by a large delegation on his first official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, held talks with King Mohammed VI at the royal palace in the capital Rabat.

On Sunday night, the two sides signed three cooperation agreements related to the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline, vocational training in agriculture, and the creation of an industrial platform in Nigeria to produce ammonia and its derivatives.

The project will see Morocco access a gas pipeline used since 2010 linking Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana.

The Minister Delegate to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Morocco in charge of African affairs, Mohcine Jazouli, said that the gas pipeline project, which will link Nigeria to Morocco, will have a positive impact on the population of West Africa, Morocco, and Mauritania.

Jazouli said the gas pipeline will be 5,660 kilometres long.
