    10 Jul 2018

A total of 4.1 million tourists visited Morocco between January and May in 2018, up 9 percent year on year, according to data released by the Moroccan Tourism Ministry on Monday.

The number of foreign tourists jumped by 15 percent, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad fell by 1 percent, the statistics showed.

This growth was mainly driven by the continuous increase of arrivals from traditional European markets.

The statistics showed an increase of 16 percent in Italian tourists, 12 percent in German tourists and 8 percent in both French and Dutch visitors.

From January to May, tourism revenues reached 2.11 billion U.S. dollars, 18 percent higher from a year ago.

In 2017, Morocco registered a record of 11.35 million tourist arrivals, 10 percent more than 2016.
