27 Jan 2019

Madrid - Spain is determined to advance its cooperation with Morocco in tourism, Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, said Wednesday in Madrid.

'Spain and Morocco are two very close friends that share a common history and are linked by strong relations' in several areas,” Maroto told MAP at the end of talks with Morocco’s minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy, Mohamed Sajid, on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which kicked off Wednesday in Madrid.

The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Kingdoms in tourism, which is expected to take place this year, will give new impetus to this cooperation, she pointed out.

This cooperation framework, to be signed during her planned visit to Morocco in the first half of 2019, will focus on concrete commitments, Maroto said.

The Spanish minister reiterated on this occasion the Spanish Government's willingness to consolidate its cooperation with Morocco in all areas, including tourism.

Morocco is taking part in the 39th edition of FITUR with a strong delegation made up of 150 professionals and stakeholders of the tourism sector.

A Moroccan stand, which combines authenticity and modernity, has been set up by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) over a surface area of 312 m2 at this international fair.
FITUR is a global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound Ibero American markets.

In 2018, FITUR has beaten the participation record with 10,190 exhibiting companies from 165 countries/regions, 140,120 trade participants and 110,860 people from the general public.

The event will run through Jan 27, 2019.
