Afreximbank provides Tunisia with 2 lines of credit of $ 800 million

05 Feb 2019

(TAP) - The African export-import bank (Afreximbank) has opened two lines of credit with a total value of $ 800 million (the equivalent of 2.4 billion dinars) for Tunisia, the Prime Ministry said in a statement Monday.

The first credit line of about $ 500 million (or 1.5 billion dinars) will be dedicated to the trade and export of Tunisian goods, while the second line worth $ 300 million (approximately 900 million dinars) will be allocated to the banks to help them face the difficulties of exchange and to finance investment and trade in Africa, according to the same source

The announcement of these two credit lines was made on the sidelines of the meeting between Afreximbank President & CEO Benedict Okey Oramah and Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Monday in Kasbah palace.

The two lines were decided on the occasion of the second session of the International Conference on Financing Investment and Trade in Africa that will take place on February 5-6, 2019, in Tunis, at the initiative of the Tunisia Africa Business Council.

The African official, whose remarks were quoted in the statement, announced the opening in the coming days in Tunis of a regional office of the Bank covering North Africa.

He also stressed the need to support Tunisian institutions, companies and exporters in their efforts to conquer African markets, emphasising Afreximbank's concern to strengthen financing mechanisms and to promote intra-African trade.
