Gas estimate increases for Anchois field offshore Morocco

Reprocessed 3D seismic data over Morocco’s Lixus offshore license has led to an upgrade of resources at the proposed Anchois gas field development.

LONDON – Reprocessed 3D seismic data over Morocco’s Lixus offshore license has led to an upgrade of resources at the proposed Anchois gas field development.

Operator Chariot Oil & Gas asked Netherland Sewell & Associates Inc. (NSAI) to provide an updated assessment of a 50-sq km (19-sq mi) area covering Anchois.

NSAI now estimates remaining recoverable resources at more than 1 tcf for the field, a 148% increase on the previous assessment.

Analysis also found that the low-risk prospective targets (C, M and O sands) could be drilled at low cost as part of any appraisal or development drilling on the Anchois discovery (A and B sands).

Chariot continues to work up other gas prospects on the license, based on the reprocessed data.

The company operates in partnership with state-owned ONHYM.

Lixus covers an area of around 2,390 sq km (923 sq mi), in water depths ranging from the coastline to 850 m (2,789 ft). Legacy 3D seismic data was acquired over four exploration wells, including the Anchois discovery, and reprocessed by PGS.
