    Morocco infrastructure projects launched in Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab,

    The government of Morocco represented by Lamine Benomar and El Khattat Yanja, the Wali (Governor) of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab and the President of the Regional Council of the Dakhla – Oued-Eddahab respectively, has inaugurated the construction works of a series of new infrastructure projects in Morocco the North African country’s southernmost region.

    Construction of centers for commercial activities and a borehole

    Launched on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Morocco’s Independence Day, the Morocco infrastructure projects include the construction of two centers for commercial activities and services in the small coastal town of El Argoub and the town of Bir Anzarane. The center in El Argoub is projected to cost around US$ 876,712, while the second project in Bir Anzarane has a budget of US$ 767,123.

    The two projects will be developed in partnership with the Ministry of Urban Planning and the Agency for the Development of the South. They are set to be completed within a span of 12 months. Each of the centers will have several shops, two catering spaces, two multipurpose rooms, prayer rooms, technical equipment, and outdoor spaces.

    A deepwater drilling operation was also inaugurated near Bir Anzarane, a town in the disputed area of Western Sahara, in a bid to address water scarcity in the region. The US$ 1.39M project will draw water from a depth of 1,500 meters.

    Construction of social housing units and rehabilitation a beach

    In addition to the construction of centers for commercial activities and a borehole, the government officials also inaugurated a social housing project in Tawarta, near Dakhla. The project will see the construction of approximately 1,500 social housing units in the region.

    The first phase of the project will bring to being 1,000 housing units, including 402 residential buildings and 54 shops. This phase is estimated to cost about US$ 20.82M.

    Other projects launched on that particular day include the rehabilitation of the Oum Labouir beach, near Tawarta, and the renovation of the entrance to Dakhla.
