Sierra Leone Supports Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project

    29 Aug 2021

Rabat - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, David Francis, expressed, Thursday in Rabat, the support of his country for the gas pipeline project to link Nigeria and Morocco.

'Trade and investment are a very important component, but so is the political component, which is why we are supporting the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project,' he said at a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, after their meeting.

Francis affirmed, in this sense, that his country 'has no doubt that this project will be beneficial to it, in the same way as the other countries of the West African sub-region', stressing that 'this demonstrates Morocco's leadership and global position in support of energy security and access to electricity'.

Launched in 2016 in Abuja under the chairmanship of HM King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, this large-scale project will link Nigeria's gas resources, those of several West African countries and Morocco, thus promoting regional economic integration.
