Rabat- Air traffic controllers in Italy are on strike this Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 5 pm Moroccan time, reports Air Journal, a media outlet dedicated to air transport.

A strike followed in regional controls around the airports of Rome, Milan, Turin, Naples, Pescara, and Genoa.

As a result of the strike, several airlines, such as Air France, Royal Air Maroc, Tunisair, Swiss, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Wizz Air or SAS Scandinavian among others, have had to cancel or modify schedules at Fiumicino, Rome.

In a statement, Italy’s national airline, Alitalia, said it had canceled approximately 70 flights “to limit the inconvenience to passengers.”

Travelers affected by the cancellation or schedule change of Alitalia flights on September 7 are invited to make a new reservation “without additional costs or penalties or request a full refund of the ticket before September 14.” The statement also noted that the new reservation must be confirmed prior to October 14.

Similarly, Royal Air Maroc has decided to allow passengers to change flights between Canada and Morocco on August 30, following Canada’s decision to ban flights coming from Morocco due to the country’s surge of COVID-19 cases.

“To support all our passengers during this period, ticket changes from Morocco to Canada will be allowed, free of charge, until December 15, 2021, to the same or another destination,” Royal Air Maroc announced.
