Royal Air Maroc Announces Special Flights to Several European Countries

RAM’s special offers come after Morocco’s government announced a two-week travel ban to shield the country against the new variant of the COVID-19 virus.

02 Dec 2021

Fez - Morocco national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has confirmed it will be carrying special flights from Morocco to Belgium, Canada, Spain, and Italy between December 4-6.

RAM said on its official Twitter, 'We inform our Customers that special flights (under special authorization) from Morocco to Belgium, Canada, Spain, and Italy are scheduled from December 04, 2021 to December 06,2021.'

The decision comes after Moroccan authorities decided on November 28 to suspend all flights from and to Morocco for two weeks as a precaution against a potential outbreak of Omicron, the new strain of the COVID-19 virus.

RAM also postponed its first Casablanca-Tel Aviv direct flight that was initially scheduled for December 12, and it will be scheduled for a later date.

The Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa and reported to the World Health Organization last week. Several European and African countries reported cases of contamination with the new variant.

Saudi state media announced the country registered the first case on a Saudi national who traveled from a North African country.

The world is holding its breath amid concerns over yet another COVID wave and many countries have banned travel from some destinations until further notice.

There is still no consensus on the efficacy of existing COVID vaccines in the face of this extremely contagious and 'dangerous' variation. However, health professionals believe Omicron will significantly reduce the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine.
