Rabat - The 16-year-old Moroccan racer Suleiman Zanfari finished third in the second race of the Spanish F4 Championship’s opening round.
“I didn’t take any risks in the first and third races. I attacked more in Race 2. I made a crucial pass at the end of the race and then I was able to resist the pressure of my opponents. It’s a great start to the season for me,” Zanfari said in a press release.
After ranking 6th and 7th in the qualification stages, he finished 5th in the first race before securing the third position in the second one. The Moroccan racer snatched the spot from Hugh Barter at the final lap, putting him third after Nikola Tsolov and Tymoteusz Kucharczyk.
However, he placed 6th in the third race, settling his provisional ranking at 5th position.
“I am quite satisfied with my performance in this first round. I did well to intensify my preparation this winter because the standard is really high this year,” Zanfari said.
The first round of the Spanish F4 Championship took place from April 29 to May 1 at the Algarve circuit in Portimao, Portugal.
The International Federation of Automobile (FIA) noted that May 1 races adapted to the format of the Portuguese competitions since “race 3 (25 minutes + 1 lap) was run in the morning while race 2 (18 minutes + 1 lap) was the closing race of the weekend.”
The Spanish F4 championship consists of a total of 7 events at renowned motorsport circuits with five rounds held in Spain.
Spain will host the next round at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit on May 28-29. The 16-year-old racer will join the leading 30 drivers in the second round.
In 2021, Zanfari finished 11th in the Spanish F4 Championship. The Moroccan racer is a member of the Dutch MP Motorsport team coached by Sander Dorsman. The team consists of youth talents aspiring to become champions in the F4, F3, F2, and even leading F1 categories.
