Rabat - German car part manufacturer, Stahlschmidt International Holdings, officially launched its first manufacturing units today in one of Morocco’s biggest industrial zones in Tangier, the Automotive City Area.

The new factory is set to cover a total surface of 21,400 square meters, with a total budget of MAD 107 million.

The inauguration marks the completion and opening of 9,400 square meters of the planned 21,400 square meters. According to Morocco’s News Agency (MAP), the facility is set to become fully operational in January 2023.

Official sources estimate that the industrial unit will generate more than 1000 jobs by 2023.

A number of high-profile officials attended the inauguration of the facility, including Morocco’s Industry and Trade Minister, Ryad Mezzour, Director General of the Tangier Med Port, Mahdi Tazi Al-Rifi, German ambassador to Morocco, Robert Dollger, and Director-General of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco, Andreas Wenzel.

Speaking at the launch of the factory, Mezzour said that the new unit further strengthens Tangiers’ position as a prominent, industrial destination.

In addition, the new venture will further enhance Moroccan-German economic cooperation.

Mezzour added that Morocco has become an industrial destination for major international industrial groups, especially those in the automobile industry.

The progress is largely thanks to the incentives that Morocco offers investors coupled with the presence of a qualified and experienced labor market, the minister explained.

For his part, the Director-General of the Tangier Med Port, Mahdi Tazi Al-Rifi, highlighted that the new manufacturing unit confirms Morocco’s leadership in providing state-of-the-art port services both on the Mediterranean and African levels.

Speaking on the occasion, the German ambassador asserted that the new German investment in the Tangier-Med industrial zone reflects the significant progress made in Moroccan-German relations.

According to the ambassador, Morocco is a “rising economic power” and both a regional and continental model.

The director-general of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco furthermore stated that he believed that the prospects for economic cooperation between Rabat and Berlin are “promising,” especially in the light of the growth of German investments in Morocco.
