    Over 48,000 Businesses Emerged in Morocco in First Half of 2022

    The Casablanca-Settat region registered the creation of over 13,000 new businesses by the end of June, the highest number across Morocco.

    Rabat - More than 48,000 new businesses debuted in Morocco during the first half of 2022, according to data from the country’s Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

    Of the new businesses, more than 14,000 companies belong to individuals who filed to acquire legal status to work as self-employed freelancers, OMPIC reported.

    Breaking down the figures by sector, OMPIC indicated that trade accounts for 36% of new businesses, followed by construction and public works (BTP) and real estate activities with an 18% share.

    The services sector ranked third with a 17% share, transport came in fourth position with a share of 9%, and the industrial sector ranked 5th with a 6, 81% share of newly created businesses.

    Casablanca and its surrounding areas remain in the lead position in terms of the regional distribution of business creation, as the Casablanca-Settat region registered the creation of over 13,000 new businesses.

    The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region came in second place with the creation of over 6,000 businesses. Rabat-Sale-Kenitra ranked third, as the region also welcomed over 6,000 new businesses.

    Morocco’s tourism hub, the Marrakech-Safi region, saw the creation of more than 4,000 businesses. Following were the Fez-Meknes region with over 3,000, and the Souss-Massa region with more than 2,000 ne busunesses.

    The list of regions welcoming more than 2,000 businesses also includes Sharq with 2,721 and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra with 2,252.

    Meanwhile the list of regions that welcomed less than 2,000 new businesses in the first half of 2022 includes Beni Mellal-Khénifra with 1,706, Draa-Tafilalet with 1,367, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab with 1,190, and Guelmim-Oued Noun with 469.

    Nearly 62% of the new, emerging companies filed for the legal status of limited liability companies with single shareholders (SARLAU), while 37% registered under the limited liability companies (SARL) legal framework, and only 0.2% filed under the joint stock companies (SA) legal framwork.
