Morocco, Qatar Sign Information-Sharing Agreement for 2022 World Cup

Morocco and Qatar are collaborating to ensure the best possible organization of the 2022 World Cup.

    23 Sep 2022

Rabat - Morocco and Qatar signed on September 21 a joint declaration on the exchange of information relating to the upcoming 2022 World Cup.

According to the Qatar News Agency, the declaration was signed by Qatar’s Head of the Legal Affairs and Liaison Unit Ibrahim Khalil Al-Mohannadi, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Steri.

The FIFA World Cup will be held from November 21 to December 18 in Doha, with the participation of 32 countries, including Morocco and Qatar.

In 2020, Morocco has offered to assist Qatar with both human and logistical resources in order to ensure the success of the 2022 World Cup.

By jointly working with Qatar, Morocco has spent significant efforts to facilitate the organization of this international competition.

Qatar has announced its interest to benefit from Morocco’s expertise in the field of security.

As a result, Morocco in June sent thousands of police officers to Qatar to assist the Gulf country in strengthening security for the FIFA World Cup.

The move came in accordance with a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two countries, which aimed to contribute to the security coverage of the highly anticipated event.

In May, the North African country agreed to send a team of cybersecurity experts to Qatar in preparation for the FIFA World Cup.

These collaborations came a few days after Morocco’s DGSN-DGST Chief Abdellatif Hammouchi’s visit to Qatar’s 80,000-seat stadium, becoming the first senior foreign official to do so.

On the same occasion, Hammouchi held a series of meetings with Qatari officials to inquire about the country’s last FIFA World Cup preparations.
