RAM Strengthens Commitment to Environmental Sustainability in Partnership with IATA

    02 Nov 2022

Casablanca - Morocco's flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced on Monday that it has joined the community of airlines that adhere to the environmental assessment program of the International Air Transport Association - IATA- (IEnvA).

This is an 'important step on the road to sustainability for the national company whose commitment to environmental responsibility is recognized and enshrined in several labels,' RAM said in a statement.

This new commitment was made with IATA during a signing meeting held recently in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO).

IATA, which includes some 290 international companies (including the Moroccan company) or 83% of total air traffic, plays a key role in developing a global policy of the air transport industry on critical issues, said the statement, specifying that the issue of environmental sustainability is one of these major current issues.

'For Royal Air Maroc, already committed to a proactive approach to environmental responsibility, the IEnvA will be an additional tool to strengthen its efforts and confirm them through a certification of international scope,' says the statement.

The company has set up an Environmental Committee to monitor all its environmental management projects. Numerous initiatives have been carried out in various fields: energy saving, waste management, the fight against water stress, responsible purchasing, etc.

Royal Air Maroc has signed the Qualit'Air Charter with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Environment, which aims to monitor and reduce its carbon impact. The company is also working with its ecosystem within the framework of the NZE 2050 Objective to find SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) solutions.

'Royal Air Maroc's membership of IEnvA underscores its commitment to improving the company's environmental management practices and overall sustainability,' said Kamil Alawadhi, IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East at the signing ceremony.

'We are very pleased that RAM has partnered with IATA on this issue and we trust them to work with us to make further progress. Environmental sustainability is an existential challenge for the entire airline industry. IATA is proud to work with its member airline to introduce world-class environmental management practices in the aviation industry,' added Alawadhi, as quoted in the release.

'This is one more step in improving our practices related to our company’s social and environmental responsibility and we will remain very active within the international association to contribute to the progress of our industry on a truly crucial issue,' said Hamid Addou, RAM Chairman and CEO.
