Rabat - Morocco has ranked fourth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in terms of racial equality, according to a recent ranking from American outlet US News.

Saudi Arabia topped the regional ranking in terms of racial equality while securing the 35th position globally. Algeria followed coming in second place in the MENA region and 38th in the world, ahead of Egypt (42nd), Oman (61st), and Lebanon (63rd).

In Africa, Morocco ranked 8th behind the best-performing country in the continent Cameroon which occupied 29th position globally. South Africa took the second position in the continent and 36th in the world, ahead of Ghana (37th), Algeria (38th), Zambia (39th), Egypt (42nd), Kenya (34th), and Morocco (55th).

The ranking was produced by US News in partnership with Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and New-York based branding group BAV.

The global survey collected responses from more than 17,000 people from 85 countries who agreed moderately or strongly to the following statement: “A country is stronger when it is more racially and ethnically diverse.”

European countries topped the global ranking with the Netherlands crowned as the country that most values racial equality, followed by Sweden, Norway, Canada, Finland, Denmark, New Zealand, Switzerland, Belgium, and Australia.

The racial equality survey was published in late September accompanying the US News Best Countries Ranking which placed Switzerland, Germany, and Canada in the top three. The ranking takes into consideration 12 indicators including quality of life, cultural influence, and openness to business.

Morocco ranked 43rd in the overall ranking behind European countries and some Arab countries such as the UAE (21st), Qatar (29th), Saudi Arabia (34th), and Egypt (35th). Meanwhile, Oman, Lebanon, and Algeria had the lowest global rankings of 78th, 79th, and 80th out of 85th.
