Rabat - Morocco's tourism industry, a vital sector to the country's socio-economic development, continues to show signs of a strong and steady recovery from the pandemic's effects, with tourist revenues increasing by 120%.
“Tourism has experienced a strong recovery following the opening of the borders compared to 2019,” Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said at a press briefing on Thursday, adding that revenues have “increased by 120% between 2019 and 2022.”
Baitas also highlighted that due to strong international demand for Moroccan handicrafts, the country's exports in that sector will at the end of this year surpass the milestone of “1 MAD billion for the first time.”
Of note, the minister continued: “ MAD 795 million was the highest export figure Morocco has ever recorded.”
Baitas went on to say that the tourism industry will see the launch of several innovative projects in the coming months, including the revision of promotional campaigns.
Baitas’s upbeat comments come as Morocco's tourism sector continues to markedly recover from the COVID-induced disruptions.
According to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), Morocco's tourism revenues reached MAD 71.1 billion by the end of October 2022.
Additionally, the country recorded 7.7 million tourist arrivals and 13.3 million overnight stays in registered accommodation facilities over the first nine months of 2022.
